Come to D'ni...You're Needed!

The call has been sounded. Cyan needs to show its investors that Uru is a viable enterprise, and the best way to show your support is to come to D'mala. Whether you're totally new to Myst or Uru, or haven't had the heart to go back since Live, or you drifted away from Until Uru for whatever reason, now is the time to put aside that past to write a possible new future. A future that an innovative, creative MMO has a place in the gaming market. A future that the tree grows again. A future that is Uru Live.

Boredom makes me write lists

I'm in the thick of college, yet bored at the present moment, so here's the classes I've been taking this semester:

1. Anthropology: Culture, Society, and People
My least favorite class. The professor is enthusiastic without being obnoxious about it, and he teaches the concepts far better than the main book we've been using (it's drier than the desert). Unfortunately, not even enthusiasm can make this class any fun, which is a pity, because I thought it would be interesting.

2. History: European History 1500-1815
My favorite class. Yeah, it's just listening in a giant lecture hall, but I love history. This time in European history certainly wasn't dull: Renaissance, Reformation, American and French Revolution, all the religious wars, the birth of the scientific method, you name it.

3. Theater: Beginning Design
This class is a repeat for me (my grade could've been better), but it's much more enjoyable and doable this second time around. The teachers now are different, and they are much more helpful and willing to lend a hand and give more time to complete the projects than my last time. Which is good, because I do not have a head for this type of creativity (I always hated arts and crafts), and work much more slowly than everyone else in the class.
The class itself is split into 4 components, designed to teach you the basics in Costuming, Lighting, Drafting, and Set Design. Right now I'm taking Costuming and Lighting, and will do the other two after Spring Break. Lighting has been easy--learning the four qualities of light, seeing how lighting an object at different angles can affect said object, and how to physically use the lighting instruments. The big Costuming project is the making of an apron. Ugh. After I'm done making it, I don't know whether I'm going to frame it or set it on fire!

4. Theater: Latina Playwrights in U.S. Theater
Truth be told, I only took the class because it fit my schedule and bumped my credits to the average amount of 15. Still, it's been a good class so far. We only meet on Fridays. The plays we've been discussing have been good reads. It's kinda funny though--apart from the professor, I'm the only Latina in the class, but I'm the only one who doesn't know any Spanish!
The class has a community service requirement that can be easily filled. Mine is already done--I was a cast member in Women Playwrights of Color of the 1920s. Several plays were performed through staged readings. I was in the play Soldadera, about the women who fought in the Mexican Revolution.

5. Theater: Scenic Design
This class is the real reason why I'm not applying to the DRC Liason position. Our ongoing project is to do the entire set design for our production of Romeo and Juliet. We're already behind, we haven't even been able to finalize a design yet. It doesn't open until late April, but the closer we get, the more spare time this is gonna eat up. Come tech week, I'll be too busy to even check my email, much less Uru news.

My baby is broken!!

Of all the rotten luck!

I thought a replacement graphics card would solve my "random-restart" problem. I installed it on Friday, and now it won't even turn on! I have to send it to Alienware to get it fixed, which means I won't have my computer for almost a month!

Now, my mother is giving me her older computer to tide me over, and the libraries have PCs so I can keep up with Myst news.

BUT--and this is the kicker--I won't be able to access Uru until my PC is fixed. Which means that I won't be able to participate in the mysterious happening this week.

This is KILLING me!!! Two YEARS of nothing happening in Uru, and NOW something new is underway, and I can't be a part of it!

So here I am

I'm back at UMass Amherst to finish up my bachelor's degree in theater. The plus side is that instead of living in the dorms, I have off-campus housing with a lovely older couple.

I love my room (it's huge and pre-furnished), but I've just moved in today and already I'm feeling a bit homesick. This feels slightly surreal; I always feel a little weird when my routine is changed this drastically. It feels even weirder that I'm not living in the dorms, but in an actual house.

Oh well. I'll get used to it. I always do. :)

Happy New Year!

Well, it's now officially 2006 on the east coast. For the fourth time in a row, I've kept my personal New Year's tradition of staying home in bed with a nasty cold/sinus infection. It was even worse this year, because instead of getting sick on New Year's Eve, I got sick on Christmas Eve. Awesome.

I guess I shouldn't complain too much. I'm now on antibiotics, so I feel a lot better than I did even two days ago. At least this year is starting on a road to recovery, instead of it starting in a miserable half-conscious haze while watching the Monk marathon.

And there's good news as well--after almost 2 years of being silent, the DRC forums have sprung to life again. Victor Laxman is posting once more. A couple of test posts, and something about "a guy who wants to ask us questions." We don't know if this is only the beginning of a reborn Uru Live, or just another way for Cyan to keep the community alive and talking. All I know is, it's incredibly exciting. Even if they end up keeping the Uru storyline going through DRC forum posts and nothing else, it's still content from Cyan Worlds to me! Add this to Eleri's new group to resurrect IC discussions in the cavern, and I'm considering creating a separate blog for GallifreyLady the D'ni explorer.

Oh yes, resolutions. They're pretty much the same resolutions I make every year. Maybe I won't break them all before mid-January this time:

1. Get more exercise
2. Eat healthy/cut down on junk food
3. Cut down on Pepsi consumption

Have a happy (and healthy) new year, everyone!!!

Harry Potter and the PG-13 Film

I saw Goblet of Fire with the girlfriends last night. Good movie! Very lighthearted for most of the film (I couldn't stop laughing for much of it), which is good seeing as how the ending was going to take a much darker turn at the end, and that Order of the Phoenix is going to most likely be an angst-a-thon. Whine about in your Livejournal, Harry!

I'm also having a lot of fun with Mario Kart DS. Apparently someone in the neighborhood has a wireless network--it will keep me satisfied until I receive my Wi-Fi Connector. :)

I thought I'd be an Elf...
